What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing helps you be prepared to navigate any route that the birthing of your baby takes you, whether that is in hospital or at home.

You may have already heard from friends and friends of friends about hypnobirthing and their experiences, or it may be something that is entirely new and unfamiliar to you. So what exactly is hypnobirthing?

To some it may sound a little new age or alternative, but the truth is that hypnobirthing is simple and logical and has been around for decades. It is based on the foundation that childbirth is natural and not a medical event.

It concerns the releasing of mum’s fears and the building up of confidence in the birth process. Together, mum’s newly acquired tools, techniques and increased confidence give mum and birth partner a truly empowering birth experience. It also helps enable baby to have the best possible start in life.

Calm, happy, comfortable, positive, empowering are just a few of the adjectives that are frequently used to describe a hypnobirth.

 Other benefits include:
-       More comfortable experience of labour
-       Length of labour is often shorter
-       ‘Bounce back’ is often quicker after birth as the physical impact of giving birth is reduced
-       Enhanced closeness between you and your birth partner throughout
-       Relaxation practice invaluable throughout pregnancy

How does it benefit the birth partner?

Hypnobirthing really gives the birth partner a role before and during birth. The practice and preparation gives them confidence in their ability to represent mum and ask questions. This makes it a much-shared experience for both. Hypnobirthing techniques can also be used by all, both men and women, to aid relaxation in everyday life.

How does it benefit baby?

Baby feels how mum feels, and so benefits from her relaxed state in the run up to birth and during labour. Baby will therefore receive a calm welcome into the world. As a result of this, and the absence of medical intervention, they arrive alert and relaxed. They tend to have an easy going and calm nature.
